Cuckoo Warning Day – June 21

As well as being the first day of summer it is also Cuckoo Warning Day! Where did this holiday come from? No one really knows. On this holiday, if you hear a cuckoo on June 21st you will have a wet summer.

More About Cuckoos:
Cuckoo

Cuckoo

  • Cuckoos lay their eggs in the nests of other birds, thus relinquishing their parental duties.  The cuckoo chick is not a nice guest and unceremoniously kicks the other chicks out of the nest.
  • Most cuckoos eat insects, although some are large enough to eat lizards.
  • Roadrunners are part of the cuckoo family.
